You don't have to choose between hiding this and handing over everything.

Most people either keep this entirely private, or eventually confess the whole thing badly, at 1am, without a plan. Partner involvement exists as a third option — a specific, bounded role, decided in advance, that a partner can accept, lower, or decline on their own terms.

Nothing about partner access happens automatically. Each step is a separate, deliberate action by a different party.

A partner isn't handed a master key.

Every role stops at a specific boundary, and the boundary is chosen before anyone signs off — not negotiated after the fact when someone's already anxious and improvising. What each tier can actually do is fixed in advance.

Depth, not volume — each role is a closer ring toward the Term, not a bigger dose of the same access.

Witness — sees the shape, not the detail

Authority — can trigger a response
Limited RoleWitness

The structure is visible to them; concerns may be carried to review. A Witness might know that a Term exists, roughly how long it runs, and that a Governor oversees it — enough to understand what's happening in the household, not enough to act inside it.

Observation RoleReporter

Household context can be recorded without turning the partner into the House Officer. A Reporter might note that a departure notice wasn't sent before someone left the house — the note is reviewed by the Governor before anything happens, it is never actioned directly by the partner.

Controlled AuthorityAuthority

A sharper role, only where both parties accept the boundary and Greywell approves it. An Authority partner can submit a formal notice — for example, flagging a suspected device violation — that the Governor must act on, not just read. This is the deepest role available, and the rarest one approved.

When access ends

Partner access closes automatically when the Term closes. Either the applicant or the Governor may revoke it earlier — a partner cannot be locked into a role past the point where either side wants it ended.
